First and foremost, thank you to everyone who continues to support Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW), and in particular, our recent collaborative effort to implement the My Workplace Health critical incident support system, ESHP.
Since launching just six months ago, the impact has been remarkable. We've seen a 50%+ increase in the number of firefighters triaged following critical incidents or psychological exposures.
This increase is a result of key improvements, including a centralised system for recording potentially traumatic events, greater visibility of all critical incidents attended by staff, a robust triage tool supported by the Mental Health & Wellbeing team, live on-demand data for proactive support, detailed records of wellbeing supports and interventions, enhanced reporting and record-keeping for legal accountability, proactive outreach when cumulative exposure thresholds are met.
This system is already proving invaluable — not only in real-time support for our people, but also as highlighted in administrative proceedings. It's clear that ESHP is a game-changer for firefighter wellbeing and operational resilience.
We’re excited to continue developing ESHP and exploring how it can shape future mental health strategies. This robust evidence-based solution will enable us to further refine what’s already a transformative approach to supporting our frontline teams.
Here’s to leading the way in firefighter mental health and wellbeing.
